Abstract

In order to describe the pharmacological effect of ethanol, it is necessary to know not only the ethanol concentration itself, but also the shape of the concentration curve. These curves are very different from the alveolar compartment and the venous compartment respectively. Therefore, strictly speaking, the pharmacological effect can only be described either by the venous concentration curve or by the alveolar concentration curve, unless both concentrations were transformatable into one another. However, a calculation which would make such a transformation possible absolutely lacks the necessary precision and is therefore inadequate for jurisdiction.
