Abstract

A total of ten healthy male subjects between 18 and 20 yr of age were examined on three consecutive days for signs of drug reaction of the antabus type, during simultaneous ingestion of heavy doses of Ro 7 0207 and ethanol. Ro 7 0207 in the dosage given (2 g pro d.) caused, without simultaneous ethanol ingestion, slight sensations with no objective findings in seven subjects. The group receiving a placebo did not complain of any such sensations. A pronounced alcohol intolerance (without dosage of Ro 7 0207) was observed in one subject; one test subject was apparently particularly intolerant to alcohol. The varying suggestibility of the subjects was tested by giving a placebo during alcohol ingestion. A high dosage of Ro 7 0207 did not intensify the effects of alcohol. A high dosage of Ro 7 0207 prior to or after alcohol ingestion induced no subjective or objective symptoms similar to those seen in reaction of the antabus type.
