Abstract

The alteration of the German road traffic law brought with it the introduction of legal limits for alcohol in breath measured in the unit mg/l. A prerequisite for the accurate measurement of breath alcohol is that the measuring devices do not exceed the maximum permissible error. Particularly suitable for verification are test gas generators in which air bubbles through bottles filled with aqueous ethanol solutions. These bottles need to be connected to each other in a row. Up to 700 1 of test gas with a concentration decrease of less than 1 % can be obtained by filling the first bottle with a solution of a higher concentration than the others. Measurements confirm the calculations as well as the applicability of the device in routine testing.
