Abstract

The effect of a single 20 mg dose of dipotassium-clorazepate on the subjective mood of 14 male subjects with and without the simultaneous administration of alcohol was studied. Questionnaires with antonymous adjectives and with various graduations were used. The subjects were asked to describe the acute effect of the medicine and alcohol as well as the side-effects during the test and on the following morning, using six of these polar concepts. A clearly anxiolytic effect of chlorazepate in the main phase of effectiveness was found and the stabilizing effect the next morning could be clearly distinguished from the changes in mood occurring under the effect of alcohol and the period thereafter.
