Abstract

In the context of psychophysiologic measurements of performance with and without administration of ethanol, the emotional state of the test subjects was ascertained on the basis of their response to a paired word test consisting of 31 word pairs. Blood alcohol levels after administration of ethanol ranged between 0.14% and 1.34%. Changes in emotional state were standardized on the basis of 364 polarity profiles. Varying, and often statistically significant, correlations were established for some word pairs. Compared with the group as a whole, new and other association patterns of word pairs were observed in the experimental ethanol group. Changes in emotional state were related to the blood alcohol level. The stress situation induced by the experiment itself resulted in marked changes in the emotional state of the test subjects in the sense of a negative experience.
