Abstract

A series of 200 computed tomography (CT) scans performed for blunt head trauma was reviewed. Six patients were found to have clearly definable intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH); in three cases no other CT abnormality was noted. Computed tomography represents the only noninvasive method of detecting IVH, and the incidence of this entity has not previously been studied. Future attention to this problem may well demonstrate an even higher incidence, and establishment of its prognostic significance in trauma will be of considerable value. Scanning in the immediate posttrauma period is crucial.
