Abstract

The attitudes of 237 specialists towards 43 proposed countermeasures were collected. The majority of subjects agreed that increased detection, education, research and therapy were effective. Attitude change, punishment and the reduction of driving after drinking were seen as less effective. Reduction of drinking, especially by forced restrictions were seen as ineffective. Very little difference was found between Ss when they were divided up by place of origin, occupation, orientation and training; rather, it was concluded that attitudes were mainly formulated on the basis of belief in individual freedom.
