Abstract

By means of 999 blood alcohol values (greater-than or equal to)3(per mille), the frequencies were calculated which could be expected with stepwise increase in the blood alcohol concentrations from 3 to 4.6(per mille). Following this, a BAL of (greater-than or equal to)4(per mille) could be found in 14 out of 100,000 blood samples and 1 of (greater-than or equal to)5(per mille), 1.4 times in 10 million. Blood alcohol levels of between 4.0 and 4.5(per mille) can be expected to lead to lethal poisoning. The alcohol dose of 6-8 g/kg body weight, until now the most commonly quoted in the literature, seems as a result of recent experience to be 50% too high.
