Abstract

From 5 alcoholized shock patients blood samples were taken during 9 to 11 hr for measuring the alcohol concentration. During intensive treatment (blood substitute infusions and blood transfusion) 3 important observations were made: During the first hours after the trauma the blood alcohol concentration is not only influenced by shock mechanisms. About 3 hr after the shock the blood alcohol curve tends to decrease gradually. Patients surviving the shock may exhibit long plateau formation when the blood alcohol concentration is lower than 0.02%.
