Abstract

Alcoholic beverages can be identified by means of congener estimation and hence it is possible to obtain information regarding the consumed beverage by analysing the congener content of blood and urine samples. This can be of importance in those cases of traffic accidents in which drivers maintain that they consumed alcoholic drinks only after the accident. For this purpose an improved gas chromatographic method is proposed. Analysis is performed on a 2-column head-space gas chromatograph with two flame-ionization detectors (Perkin-Elmer Multifract F 45). The results are automatically quantitated by a laboratory computer (Perkin-Elmer Sigma 10).
