Abstract

It is necessary to reduce the critical limit of alcohol level in the blood from 0.8(per mille) to 0.5(per mille) according to the recommendation of the WHO expert group 1973. Results of interviews with 740 young persons of an age from 16 to 21 showed that 70% to 75% agreed with the recommended reduction. 77% of 108 medical students of the University of Zurich also suggested a lower limit than 0.8(per mille) in Switzerland. After a health education lecture on the problem of alcoholism 87% of 210 young woman school teachers agreed with a lower limit. A similar result was achieved among 78% of 145 high school students in Interlaken. More public information seems to be necessary to support a recommendation for changing the legal limits.
