Abstract

Cocaine induced psychosis is increasingly being encountered as a defense in court cases involving serious violent crimes. Although both the number of cocaine users and the average amount of cocaine ingested are increasing, obviously not all cocaine users become psychotic. A literature review and discussion of cocaine psychosis is presented with emphasis on distinguishing the normal expected effects of cocaine from the hallmark features of cocaine psychosis.
