Abstract

Some might question the need for research in medical and human factors, as some of th human causes of accidents are well-known; such as driving while fatigued, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs; or while physically or mentally ipaired. But the relative importance of many of these factors have not been well documented as factors causing traffic accidents. It is obvious therefore that more research is required to study the relative importance of human and medical factors before countermeasures may be introduced to control the. There is also need for research to evaluate the effectiveness of the countermeasures.
