Abstract

This study examines child and school-related violence in the United States from an interdisciplinary bio-educational perspective. The study analyzes the role of teachers and schooling in socializing juvenile violence and develops a new term, 'child-normative violence,' to explain the disorder. The dissertation also suggests structural changes in education which might lessen or prevent juvenile destructive behaviors, such as cohorting elementary classes, instituting teacher-student based competency advancement, mandatory adolescent public service, and increasing commitment to multicultural instruction.
