AUTHOR'S ABSTRACT:
Faced with the growing problem of violence in our schools, a 'Midwestern' County Office on Violence Reduction, in conjunction with an 'Urban' Public School System, implemented a program designed to reduce school violence through training students in conflict resolution. This study will examine the impact of the conflict resolution curriculum on school safety and school violence. Middle-school children who attended schools which conducted conflict resolution training will be compared to middle-school children who attended a school which did not conduct conflict resolution training. Responses to survey questions were analyzed and evaluated using mean scale scores. Children who attended schools which presented the conflict resolution curriculum did not respond differently from the control group on scales intended to measure perceived school safety and interpersonal conflict.
