Abstract

It is suggested that the general inferiority of retardates on tests of motor performance is due to contamination of the test with cognitive elements, that, by definition, are inferior in the retardate. This contamination hypothesis seems worthy of investigation since educable mentally handicapped children learned and performed a discrete novel motor task similarly to normal Ss matched to them on CA and MA, when this contamination was minimized by the procedure.
