Abstract

At present, limit equilibrium method and strength reduction technique by finite element method are the most common analysis methods in slope stability analysis. However, most of these methods are based on the principle of strength reduction. It is need to be pointed out specially that the limited equilibrium stress state obtained by strength reduction is just an artificial and virtual state. In this study, based on the vector characteristics of force and actual stress state of slope, the anti-sliding stability of dam section No. 26 in the Three Gorges Project is analyzed, The calculating results show that it is not only rational to assess the stability of dam section, but also it is clear in physics and the formula of safety factor and its calculating process is very simple.
