Abstract

Research use is central to evidence-based policy and practice. This paper unpacks the concept of research utilization in order to understand the complexity surrounding the development, dissemination and adoption of evidence-based crime prevention. By drawing on the research utilization literature the paper aims to provide insights into key challenges faced by academics and crime prevention professionals in generating evidence-based crime prevention, that is, understanding research utilization and knowledge development, and adherence to evidence-based approaches. Implications for the production of crime prevention good practice guidance are identified.

Keywords: research utilization, evidence-based policy, crime prevention knowledge, fidelity and adaptation
