Abstract

Stress is an adaptive response, moderated by individual differences, that is a consequence of any action, situation, or event that places special demands on a person. Many sources of stress today have been around for years. The decade of the 90s has ushered in some additional stressful situations that are of particular concern today. These additional situations include: competition and change; technological change; increasingly diverse workforce; downsizing; employee empowerment and teamwork; work/home conflict; elder and child care; violence in the workplace; and stress, law, and worker's compensation.
