Abstract

In this comprehensive article, the author describes in detail what is involved in an active shooter incident--a happening that has claimed hundreds of victims in hospitals, schools, theatres and other venues in the past decade. He presents the issues surrounding an active shooter to educate those who may be involved in the dynamics of this kind of threat. Continual education, training, and working alongside coalition stakeholders within the community are imperative to the survival of those who may become involved in such a situation, he says, requiring the knowledge and skills to maintain calmness and life safety in such an event.
