Abstract

This paper descirbes the Available Motions Inventory (AMI) as a testing and evaluation system for measuring human physical ability based on components of industrial manual tasks. Using a microcomputer, the AMI subtest scores (71 for each hand) can be transformed into a meaningful design-oriented scoring system for intra-individual and inter-individual comparisons. Also, the AMI was shown to have a high test-retest reliability with a correlation coefficient of 0.85. This system can be used for design and modification of industrial manual tasks based on matching of human abilities with task requirements.
