Abstract

Control rooms and systems are being upgraded in response to recognized man-machine problems. The nuclear industry is undergoing a significant technical leap from typical analog displays and hardwired instruments to computer generated, multi-function parametric displays. These advanced display concepts include top down, breakdown structure of the data base, diagnostic applications, operator pattern recognition and have color coded alphanumeric and graphic formatting. What are the behavioral, system, development, evaluation, and regulatory issues? Panel members will represent different points of view: the display designer, the human factors evaluator, the research sponsor, the primary display user and power plant operator, and the government regulator. Panelists will provide substantiating research, opinions, and recommendations for future research and evaluation.
