Abstract

A project was carried out to develop preemployment tests based on the physical requirements of roughneck jobs on dilling rigs. A job and task analysis based on 17 drilling installations, including land and marine operations, indicated materials handling activities represented a high proportion of the essential tasks. The tasks were classified as one-arm transports, two-arm transports, pushing and pulling. Three tasks, job samples, were selected for a test battery. Specifically, pail carry, bag carry and push tasks make up the test procedures.
