Abstract

The variation of inspection error detection with a variation in some design parameters was examined. Incoming product quality, as measured in terms of the number of defects in a product, the time available for inspection and the geometric regularity of the product to be inspected were tested in a three level experimental design. The inspection process was simulated on a visual display terminal. Analysis of the defect detection percentages showed both viewing time and the incoming product quality to effect the inspectors performance. For symmetric geometric shapes performance was much better. Such a technique is useful in both inspector training and task evaluation.
