Abstract

Over the last decade, European accident data has shown a decrease in automobile accidents and fatalities but at the same time an increase in incidents and fatalities involving Powered Two-Wheelers (PWTs). Researchers are studying the efficacy of warning systems to reduce the number and severity of accidents involving PWTs. Many of the devices involve Human Machine Interface (HMI) to interact with the rider. This paper focuses on an HMI that uses haptic technology to communicate warnings to the rider intuitively by describing the design process and experimentation, and then discussing the results.
