Abstract

The article discusses the influence of alcohol blood content in drivers on the number of traffic accidents in the region of vojvodina. In the period between 1977 and 1987 the number of accidents caused by drunk driving increased to 27% of the total number of accidents. The results obtained through an interview of 604 professional drivers show that drivers who are not alcohol addicts caused two traffic accidents, those who drink only occasionally caused 2.3 accidents and drivers who are permanent alcohol addicts caused 4.4 traffic accidents. It also suggests preventive measures to be taken, as it has been proved that education of drivers can significantly decrease the number of accidents caused by drunk driving.
