Abstract

Drugs known to produce significant central nervous system reactions have been extensively used by the general population, including private car drivers. These drugs are usually labelled with a triangle. The article studies the incidence of psychotropic drug use among private car drivers. The methodology involved investigates medical records of a randomly chosen sample of private car drivers. Drivers using psychotropic drugs occasionally or over a longer period of time, have been selected for a more detailed study. The surveyed group consisted of 317 male drivers (79.25%) and 83 female drivers (20.75%). Out of the total 400 surveyed private car drivers, 169 or 42.25% were using the triangle-labelled drugs. It is suggested that data on a driver's licence category should also be recorded in medical files.
