Abstract

Psychological examinations of drivers has been routinely performed as a part of the major research project of health related problems in a group of 631 bus and lorry drivers aged 18 to 50 years. Drivers with a record of traffic violations have been chosen for a more detailed study. It has been ascertained that the connections between some personality traits and the number of violations in traffic is more prominent in older drivers. In conclusion, it can be stated that neurotic conditions, anxiety and symptoms of psychopathologic disorders additionally reduce the abilities that have already been deteriorated due to age. The reduced abilities have been found to affect safe driving and consequently they represent a prominent accident risk.
