Abstract

This is a descriptive study of all fatal electrical accidents reported in Myanmar in 1992. The accidents involved 27 people and two cows. The victims were mostly young people (modal age group 20+years). Five main categories of causes could be identified viz line snap, loss of clearance height, unauthorized repairs, climbing up poles, and faulty insulation of service wire. Most of the cases may be considered preventable. Since electrical accidents involve young people in the prime of life, concerted efforts should be made to ensure prevention through mass public education.
