Abstract

Inherent in the design of a low-beam (passing-beam) headlamp pattern is a trade-off between providing sufficient lighting for the driver using the headlamp and protecting oncoming drivers from glare. To solve this problem, a multi-reflector (MR) headlamp is presented which has a dual focal length parabolic cylinder construction to utilize fully the light emission of the light source. Also, some segments of the MR have a tilted parabolic cylindrical shape, so a sharp diagonal cut-off line can be realized.
