Abstract

Fire growth is composed of the processes of ignition, flame spread, and burning rate. These processes are described and reviewed. An attempt is made to review the state of the art for predictive methods. The emphasis is on prectical engineering analyses, strategies used for solutions, and the assumptions that have been satisfactorily employed. The paper is intended to be a guide, not a tool.
