Abstract

The objective of this work is to study the variation of axi-symmetric fire plume structure with the variation of gravity level, which is of great significance to aviation and spaceflight. Numerical simulation of fire plume under various gravity levels is proposed here. Detailed comparison and analysis of centerline temperature and velocity are carried out. The results show that the variation of fire plume structure with the increase of gravity level can be divided into two stages. The first stage is flow dominated, while the second stage is oxygen dominated. The fire plume structure in the transition stage has unique characteristics and should be given more attention for fire safety. It has also been shown that the level of gravity has a significant effect on the fire plume structure. The study in this article extends the range where a fire plume can take place and promotes a better understanding of axi-symmetric fire plume.
