Abstract

Lesia Crumption-Young, professor at the University of Central Florida and author of the 'You've Got the Power' book-series, introduced some important strategies for improving lives in the city. She developed 'character development model' for classrooms and juvenile detention centers in North Carolina, Texas, and Florida as an effort to reduce teen violence, school dropouts, pregnancy, and suicide rates. She also designed some workplace solutions for person with disabilities and investigated cumulative trauma disorders in the construction industry. Young launched three-month workshop in 2007 at the City of Orlando's Parks and Recreation Department for young people, aimed to improve thoughts and decision-making process. Young said that character, love, security, and trust can improve self-esteem, decisions making ability, and reduce destructive cycles among youths.
