Abstract

Many geologists are unaware of the extent to which ambiguous and inconsistent terminology limits effective communication with the uninitiated, particularly in elementary teaching--the gateway through which the coming generation of geologists must enter. Good public relations and the ever-growing need for greater efficiency in teaching and in learning require increased thoughtfulness in the use of our terminology and constant effort toward its improvement.
