Abstract

A finite element technique for the elastic-plastic analysis of two dimensional structures as well as of frame systems subjected to non-steady temperature conditions is presented. The complete developing frame forces due to a local fire in a multistorey framework have been studied. In this, the interaction of the neighbouring concrete slabs have been taken into account to determine the total fire response of the bearing system as a whole. Restraint and movement have been calculated both in partially heated slab segments and in structural frame systems using nonlinear material data for concrete and steel allied to high temperatures. The necessity to take the whole system into account to achieve realistic calculations is shown.
