Abstract

In the present review, we examine the current state of the art of available International Standards and other modern test methods for reaction-to-fire testing of products. It is shown that certain features of fire performance can already be well predicted by the use of these tools. Other aspects, however, are as yet only poorly understood. The review also examines the state of the art in the capabilities of fire models. It is shown that, in many crucial respects, fire model development has lagged behind test development. Thus, for several important aspects of fires, performance today can be determined by means of bench- or large-scale testing, but cannot be adequately simulated in numerical simulations.
