Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of a drug court program on the criminal recidivism of its clients. The study uses the non-equivalent comparison group evaluation design to measure program impact by examining differences in outcomes between program participants and a comparison group. The results show program retention and completion rates increased steadily over the 3-year study period. Also, program participants performed better on a number of the indicators of recidivism than the participant group. However, while small substantive project effect sizes can be identified, the study finds no statistically significant difference in recidivism between program participants and the comparison group.
