Abstract

In the UK, deliberate self-poisoning is the most common reason for acute medical admission of women to hospital, and is second only to ischaemic heart disease for admission of men. In a family practice of 2500 patients, an average of five to seven per year will be referred to hospital after deliberate self-poisoning.
