Abstract

Action research is an approach to evaluation and program planning that is compatible with diverse constituencies and epistemologically derived sources of evaluation evidence. Fostering complementarity among experimental, pragmatic, and hermeneutic perspectives is seen as a critical management task of the leadership of an action research team. These ideas are exemplified in a case study presentation of the Improving Social A wareness-Social Problem-Solving Project, an action research collaboration designed to promote school-based preventive efforts.
