Abstract

Around the world at least one woman in every three has been beaten or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Most often the abuser is a member of her own family. Increasingly, gender-based violence is recognized as a major public health concern and violation of human rights. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the interrelationship between husband's violence and educational level of wives; husband's violence and occupational status of wives with various types of tortures and causes of violence against women. It is observed through obtained data from the Ajmer city of Rajasthan that education and occupation are playing an important positive role, which suggests that women development, reproductive rights and empowerment are main key factors to reduce gender based violence.
