Abstract

This paper attempts to throw light on the pathology of Domestic Violence (DV) on the main basis of the data from the research into the actual conditions of DV conducted in A prefecture area, also referring to the data from nation-wide research and some research carried out in other prefectures. In this paper, Domestic Violence is classified into four kinds of physical violence, psychological (mental) violence, sexual violence and neglect, and the analyses using the empirical data are made about prevalence of DV, degree of recognizing DV, factors, conditions and backgrounds of DV victimization, influence of DV victimization, consultations about the matter, and countermeasures against this problem, etc. The most important findings from the research analyses are that the proportion of women's DV victimization is far higher than the proportion of men's DV victimization, and that the most vulnerable type of women in DV victimization is the innovative type of women who have the progressive ideas and take actions being contrary to the patterns of the patriarchal man-centric societies, and therefore it is important for solving the DV problems to improve the inclinations of thinking and behavior for men hold fast to the patterns of the patriarchal man-centric societies and to react violently against the women deviant from them.
