Abstract

The article examines the different riot control agents used by European law enforcement agencies, including tear gases and pepper sprays, and provides an overview of related medical sequelae. It describes the chemical components of tear gas, explains how the riot control agents work, and the medical consequences of acute exposure to tear gas and pepper spray, which include first and second degree burns, chest pain, and eye problems. The article also discusses how to avoid exposure to tear gas and how to manage and treat people exposed to tear gas.
