Abstract

The article provides information on the result of the study conducted by Tom S. Smith of the Wild Life Sciences Program and his colleagues on the significance of bear spray in Alaska. It states that Smith and his colleagues deployed bear sprays from 1985 to 2006, in which most of the incidents involved brown bears, but 20 black bears and 2 polar bears were sprayed. According to Paul Schullery, author of "The Bears of Yellowstone," Smith and his colleagues have gathered useful information, in which their report becomes data. Moreover, Smith asserts that carrying a bear spray can help bear conservation.
