Abstract |
Investigated whether exposure to televised violence would increase the willingness of children to hurt another child. A total of 136 5-6 and 8-9 yr. olds viewed excerpts from actual TV programs depicting either aggressive or nonaggressive scenes and were then given an opportunity to aggress against a peer. Ss were subsequently placed in a free-play situation, and frequency of aggressive responses was observed. Results indicate that Ss exposed to the aggressive program engaged in longer attacks against an ostensible child-victim.
