Abstract

The bone mineral content in both forearms was measured in 34 men who had sustained fractures of the upper end of the femur and a 10-13% reduction from normal was found. Those men who were alcoholics or who had undergone gastric resection did not differ significantly from the remainder. In a parallel study in women the reduction of bone mineral mass was less and was scarcely detectable.
