Abstract

Occupational safety and health is a multidisciplinary activity and the specific disciplines involved are defined by the characteristics of process, the human operator and the design, environment and organization of the work space. The need is established for an integrated approach to the technology, the practice and the training for occupational safety and health and a model is proposed to provide this integration. Specific examples are given to show how the model provides approaches to each of these three aspects. The significance of the model to the identification of relevant control technologies and the subsequent selection of the most appropriate solution is illustrated for a variety of industrial occupations.
