Abstract

This paper, the first of a series of two papers, presents the development of a three-dimensional dynamic biomechanical model for analyzing spinal stresses generated in individuals while lifting materials manually. A comparison between model predicted and actual measured ground reaction forces indicates that the proposed model represents significant improvements over existing biomechanical models developed to date for this purpose.
