The biggest threat to road users especially at night in Nigeria is poor visibility of heavy goods vehicle that get stalled at will due largely to poor maintenance. The pictures show the level of carnage and the danger in abandoned trucks and articulated machines. P Olson/M Sivak researched in 1988 that the amount of light required to see during the hours of darkness doubles every 13 years. As we age, our visual capacity diminishes. The place of enhanced visibility cannot be over emphasised in the developing countries where they have poor maintenance culture, search and rescue and poor medical services. The pictures shows crashes of vehicles; pictures of some burnt victims. (Especially the 43 that was burnt to death in a single crash into a broken down petrol truck). The pictures will also highlight the vehicles used in this part of the world. |
