Abstract

This investigation assessed the feasibility of computer-based single-pilot resource management (SRM) pilot training, which is an adaptation of crew resource management (CRM). An SRM training course based on a cognitive apprenticeship instructional design model was developed. The course focused on situation awareness and workload management skills and incorporated various methods of practice. Thirty-six licensed pilots participated in the study. Pilots who completed training demonstrated significantly improved situation awareness over those who did not receive training. The results suggest that asynchronous online training is an effective instructional delivery method for SRM pilot training.
