Abstract

This paper describes work carried out by the authors and their colleagues in developing and assessing alternative rail routes and operating strategies for moving dangerous goods by rail through the Toronto area. The paper emphasizes the approach that was taken as a possible guide to those faced with similar problems in other urban areas, drawing on the Toronto experience to show how the approach was applied and some of the more interesting results achieved
